Psychosocial diagnostic tool

Background: There exists several screening tools but only for specific risks such  substance use, suicidalitiy etc. As psychosocial problems are not uniformly distributed among young people it is necessary to identify those young people who are at risk of developing clinical symptoms or at risk of being unable to cope in school or vocational training

Methods: We developed a diagnostic tool based on four different variables: Social background (family and school background of the youth), internal symptoms such as anxiety based on the State trait anxiety scale (Laux et al. 1981) and the depression scale of Hautzinger et al. (1993), external problems such as hyperactivity dissocial behaviour based on the CBCL (Achenbach, 1991) and finally substance use such as tobacco, cannabis and alcohol. These four variables are combined to form an index,

which indicate if persons are at risk or not at risk to be “ a youth at risk”. This instrument can be used for screening but also for individual diagnosis of youths at risk.

Training contents

Presentation of data concerning the different problems of youths. The main problems of youths are presented and the consequences of working with young people are discussed. The psychosocial diagnostic tool will be presented and applications discussed  (early detection of risks and feed back of different problem behaviours of youths). In connection with the diagnostic tool application of tailored intervention can be shown.

Participants (psychologists, social worker, pedagogics) learn to use the diagnostic tool and application in the own work.

The centre offers the training, duration time is 6 hours and inscription is Fr. 380. -
